Eagle Point

Eagle Point Wildlife Management Area at Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge is a 458-acre tract of property on the shore of Lake Memphremagog near the town of Newport, Vermont. It became part of the Missisquoi NWR in 2010. Although the parcel is owned by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), it is being managed by the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife. The Eagle Point property was donated to the U.S. government by the late Michael Dunn for the purposes of conservation and public use.

The property consists of a mix of upland and wetland habitats including northern hardwood forest, hemlock seepage forest, managed grassland, and a diverse wetland complex formed around Hall’s Creek.

There are two public use trails at Eagle Point available for walking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.  The first trail is an out and back trail leading to a small overlook of Hall’s Creek marsh.  The second trail leaves from a parking lot heading north and then west along the U.S. – Canadian border.  Traveling through a managed grassland you can glimpse Bobolinks and Eastern Meadowlarks.  The trail splits on a small hill where a short woodland loop enters the forest and reconnects with the outer grassland loop.  Return to your car by walking the dirt road back to the parking area.

In conjunction with the Memphremagog Watershed Association, the Friends of Missisquoi NWR conduct a bird walk each June on the property.

Note: there are no facilities on this property.
